Piper Alderman advises on sale of Rothery’s Coaches in Queensland

28/06/2022

Piper Alderman has advised the Rothery family on the sale of their Rockhampton bus transportation business known as Rothery’s Coaches in Queensland to ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia (CDC).

Rothery’s Coaches has provided services to the region since 1977 and is renowned for their iconic fleet of coaches, including one of the rare Denning decker buses in Queensland.  They currently provide bus transport services to the Central Queensland region, with their key clients being the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Acciona and Queensland Rail.

The Piper Alderman deal team, led by Partner, Maria Capati with Senior Associate, Kara Pennisi, advised the Rothery family on all aspects of the transaction.

Nicky Rothery, of Rothery’s Coaches said:

“The Rothery family recently required the services of a lawyer to assist with the sale of our business.  Not knowing anyone directly that specialises in our sector, our accountant suggested Maria Capati at Piper Alderman.  We are so glad that we made that choice.  Maria (along with her team at PA) is wonderful to deal with.  She guides you through the sometimes difficult process with ease, always keeping you informed about any and all developments that occur; and always with the best outcome for her client in mind.  Maria is prompt to return correspondence and happy to answer the most basic questions of legal novices such as ourselves.  We couldn’t recommend Maria highly enough.”

The sale of Rothery’s Coaches to CDC consolidates CDC’s interest in the Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast region as CDC now becomes the largest operator in the area after it’s acquisition of Young’s and Rothery’s.

Maria is a commercial lawyer with significant advisory and M&A experience in the passenger transport sector.  She has been involved in a number of transport transactions Australia-wide both on the sell-side and buy-side.  She is also considered one of the foremost experts in Australia on Government passenger contracts.
