This session will explore why a robust Intellectual Property Strategic Plan is essential for boards seeking to safeguard the significant value of this business asset. It will outline key issues, risk and mitigation strategies to ensure ownership and protection of critical IP assets, mitigating infringement risks, and approaches to preparing for potential litigation. The discussion will also highlight how boards can integrate IP considerations into governance frameworks and develop an Intellectual Property Risk Matrix strengthen long-term resilience.

Session Focus:

Focusing on the importance of an Intellectual Property Strategic Plan to:

  • Remind the organisation that Intellectual Property is a key business asset
  • Ensure that valuable intellectual property assets (brands, information, data and copyright) are owned by the company and protected from theft
  • Be prepared for occasions when the company must litigate in order to protect its intellectual property rights
  • Minimise the risk of infringing the IP rights of others
  • Create an intellectual property risk matrix
