Tim assists clients in intellectual property protection and portfolio management including filing trade mark applications, oppositions and removal proceedings and manages both the litigious and commercial aspects of intellectual property protection.

Tim enjoys helping organisations formulate intellectual property related business strategies, as well as planning and implementing strategies and tactics through special projects. He develops a good rapport with client’s key people, helping them understand the implications of intellectual property issues and assisting them in initiating and developing best practice models for intellectual property management.

Tim addresses clients and interest groups on the issues involved in the management and protection of knowledge, ideas and other intellectual property assets.

Tim developed BrandProtect®, Piper Alderman’s unique assessment, monitoring and protection service for trade marks and brand names.

Travis is a Special Counsel in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology team, working alongside Tim O’Callaghan.

Travis is an experienced intellectual property litigator, advising on disputes relating to trade marks, patents, copyright and registered designs, as well as trade mark prosecution, oppositions and consumer law. Travis has acted in leading intellectual property cases and is recognised for his strategic approach to complex disputes. His clients span a diverse range of industries, including defence contractors, national food and beverage retailers, international mining tools suppliers, financial service providers and universities.

He is an emerging leader in the field of artificial intelligence, and has been invited by government, the defence industry and tertiary institutions to contribute to policy and thought leadership in this space.

Travis is also deeply engaged in the defence industry and is currently serving as Deputy Chair of the Defence Teaming Centre, a prominent defence industry body. He has a strong interest in export controls, including the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012 (Cth) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), advising defence industry clients on these regulatory frameworks.

In addition to his legal practice, Travis tutors at Adelaide University, where he assists with intellectual property. He is also a regular contributor to Law Society publications, committees and seminars.

Laura is an Associate at Piper Alderman, with a strong focus on intellectual property and commercial law. She advises clients on IP protection strategies, conducts IP audits and supports litigation matters.
Drawing on her background in government, defence and politics, Laura brings a practical and strategic perspective to legal challenges within these sectors.
