Megan Bishop is a Partner in Piper Alderman’s Tax team. She works with investors, public and private groups and individuals to navigate complex tax issues, manage risk and achieve commercially successful outcomes.
Megan advises clients on a broad range of taxation matters, her areas of specialisation including business and group structuring, mergers and acquisitions, employment and mobility taxation, trust taxation, the research and development (R&D) tax incentive and cross-border tax issues. She has represented taxpayers in several significant restructuring and tax litigation matters. Her ability to combine technical expertise with a deep understanding of commercial drivers enables her to deliver commercially focused advice that helps clients make informed decisions in complex and often high-stakes situations.
Before commencing her legal career, Megan worked as a Chemical Engineer. This background, combined with experience gained from roles within accounting firms, in-house legal teams and private practice, and training as a mediator, provides her with a unique perspective when addressing complex business challenges.
Megan has been recognised in The Best Lawyers in Australia for Tax Law in 2025 and 2026 and was featured in Doyle’s Guide in 2025. She is also actively involved in shaping Australia’s tax profession through her roles as a member of the Australian Taxation Office’s Private Groups Stewardship Group, a member of CPA Australia’s Tax Centre of Excellence, and Vice Chair of The Tax Institute’s Engagement Committee.
