Piper Alderman continues the expansion of its real estate team with the appointment of a new partner as Head of Real Estate – Sydney.
Margot King joins Piper Alderman this month from Walker Corporation where she was Project Legal Counsel for the Parramatta Square Project.
Margot has over 15 years’ experience at international firms in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Her experience also includes in-house roles with secondments to Rio Tinto and Lendlease.
Margot is a property projects specialist with extensive experience in the urban regeneration sector, having acted for Lendlease on Barangaroo South and other projects for a number of years before moving to work on the Parramatta Square Project for Walker Corporation. Margot also acted for pension funds and developers on significant property projects in the United Kingdom, such as the re-development of the BBC Television Centre site in London.
Margot is admitted to practice as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and Western Australia; the High Court of Australia and the Courts of England and Wales.
Commenting on her decision to move out of an in-house role and back into private practice, Margot said:
“The outlook for urban regeneration and infrastructure projects in Sydney remains positive and I saw a great opportunity to return to private practice to build and lead a practice for developers and investors in property projects. I am looking forward to applying the commercial insight and understanding of client needs that I have developed in-house to deliver premium client service with focussed legal solutions.”
Margot is a member of Property Council of Australia, Urban Development Institute of Australia (NSW), construction industry charity the Lighthouse Club and Women Lawyers Association of NSW.
Managing Partner and head of the national real estate team, Tony Britten-Jones, commented on Margot joining the firm:
“Margot has a wealth of experience, both in private practice and in-house. Margot’s addition to the real estate team strengthens our existing offering to our clients and aligns with our strategic goals for our national real estate practice.”
Margot is the fourth real estate partner to join Piper Alderman in the last 6 months, following the appointments of Kathryn Walker (Adelaide), Judd Last (Brisbane) and Warren Denny and his team this month in Brisbane. The national real estate practice now has 11 partners and 15 other lawyers.
In the last 18 months, Piper Alderman has appointed 8 female partners including lateral hires Joanne Hardwick, Sarah Johnson, Andrea Beatty and Kathryn Walker.
