04/05/2026
Piper Alderman is pleased to announce today’s appointment of Simon Taskunas as a Partner of the firm’s Perth Real Estate team.
Simon brings more than 25 years of experience advising on complex development, infrastructure, and commercial real estate transactions across Australia and Asia. He acts for corporate and government clients, fund managers, developers, institutional investors and foreign investors on acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, development arrangements, capital structuring and foreign investment approvals.
His experience spans a range of sectors, with particular expertise in renewable energy projects in Western Australia, major mining and resources infrastructure (including lithium-related developments), port and logistics facilities, large-scale commercial, industrial and retail property transactions, and community housing and social infrastructure projects supported by government funding. He also has significant experience advising on urban regeneration and precinct development projects.
Simon specialises in high-value, complex transactions involving significant regulatory, infrastructure and development components. He is recognised for his ability to advise across the full lifecycle of major projects, including land tenure and access, structuring, regulatory approvals and project delivery risk.
Commenting on his decision to join Piper Alderman, Simon Taskunas said:
“I’m very pleased to be joining Piper Alderman’s Perth Real Estate team. The firm’s strong focus on client relationships and the value it places on experience in delivering practical outcomes really stood out to me. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Perth and across all the offices to support clients on their projects and transactions.”
Simon will work alongside current Perth Real Estate Partner, Catherine Wheeler to further grow the firm’s real estate offering in the Perth office. He will play a key role in developing Piper Alderman’s national real estate and infrastructure capabilities, particularly in relation to renewable energy, large‑scale developments and capital‑intensive projects across a range of industries.
Head of Perth Office, Shane Entriken, commented:
“I am pleased to welcome Simon to the team. The Perth office continues to go from strength to strength. His appointment will enhance our real estate capability, particularly across complex development, infrastructure and other real estate assets work. Simon’s depth of experience and market reputation will be invaluable as we continue to service clients and grow in Perth and nationally.”
Simon’s joining from Clayton Utz is consistent with Piper Alderman’s strategy, outlined by Managing Partner, James Macdonald, to deepen and expand the service offering in the Perth office, and go head to head with the big firms on quality, service and price.
