Planet Software owns Sonia, a global student management software. The software is used across the world, and educational institutions in Australia use this software more than any other placement system. Piper Alderman acted for Planet Software in the sale of its business to QSR International, the world’s leading qualitative data analytics software company and a subsidiary of US venture capital firm Rubicon Technology Partners.

The sale represented the culmination of 20 years of development of “Sonia”, a software that assists placement staff, placement providers, and students to view and manage information that relates to them, and which is used in multiple countries over three continents, including a majority of the top-ranked Australian universities within the “Group of Eight”. Piper Alderman was well-placed in advising Planet Software because of its experience in international mergers and acquisitions.
