Piper Alderman advises CC Cooper & Co on the sale of Madura Plains Station

Piper Alderman is pleased to have advised the owner CC Cooper & Co on the sale of Madura Plains Station to Consolidated Pastoral Company (CPC).

Located on the remote Nullarbor Plain near the Western Australian and South Australian border, Madura Plains Station spans approximately 711,638 hectares and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest sheep and wool enterprises. The property has been extensively developed under the ownership of CC Cooper & Co, supporting a flock of around 60,000 sheep and a herd of Boer X goats.

The purchaser, CPC, is a leading Australian agribusiness with a substantial portfolio of cattle, sheep and goat operations across Australia. The acquisition follows CPC’s recent purchase of neighbouring Rawlinna Station, a transaction on which Piper Alderman represented the seller, Jumbuck Pastoral Company. Having acted on both landmark transactions, the firm has played a key role in the recent consolidation of two of Australia’s most significant sheep and wool enterprises.

This transaction represents another significant deal in the Australian agribusiness sector and highlights continued investment in large-scale pastoral assets. The combination of Madura Plains and Rawlinna creates one of the world’s largest sheep production enterprises, reinforcing long-term confidence in Australia’s sheep and wool industries.

Piper Alderman advised CC Cooper & Co on all aspects of the transaction, from contract preparation and negotiation through to transaction management, regulatory approvals and settlement.

The matter involved the transfer of substantial pastoral landholdings, plant and equipment and livestock assets, together with navigating WA Government approval requirements and the various commercial and operational considerations associated with a transaction of this scale.

As with the sale of Rawlinna Station, the legal team was led by Perth Partner Catherine Wheeler, with support from Kelly Robinson.
