17/06/2024

Piper Alderman is delighted to announce 24 promotions across the firm with effect from 1 July 2024, including 1 partner, 3 special counsel, 6 senior associates, 12 associates, and 2 in business services.

Newly appointed partner, James Hill, is based in the Melbourne office and is a member of the firm’s national corporate team. The firm’s newly promoted special counsel includes Brisbane-based, Christine Lim (Dispute Resolution & Litigation), and two from the firm’s Melbourne office, John Evans (Employment Relations) and Stephen Kyrou (Restructuring & Insolvency).

Acting Managing Partner, Tim O’Callaghan commented:

“Our promotions this July reflect the excellence and dedication of our team members throughout Piper Alderman. The substantial expansion that the firm has achieved in the last 12 months was only possible because of the effort and input of these people. We are honoured to work with them and appreciate their work.”

James Hill joined Piper Alderman in 2017 as an Associate and was promoted to Senior Associate in July 2020. He has extensive experience in corporate and commercial law, covering corporate advisory, governance, mergers and acquisitions, not-for-profit advisory, foreign investment review board applications, capital raisings (both debt and equity), stamp duty and shareholder activism.

Christine Lim recently joined Piper Alderman in June 2023 and brings over a decade of experience in corporate and commercial disputes and has been an integral part of the class actions team over the past year with Piper Alderman. She has handled disputes across various sectors, always maintaining a keen focus on achieving commercial outcomes in complex cases.

John Evans joined the firm in 2016 as a Law Graduate and has advanced his career in the firm as a specialist employment relations expert, working closely with the ER team’s employer clients on significant and complex advisory and litigation matters. With John’s strong success in employment, industrial relations, and work health and safety issues, and his collaborative and involved approach, the firm is proud to present John in his new and well-earned role as Special Counsel.

Stephen Kyrou joined Piper Alderman in 2017 as a Lawyer in the Restructuring & Insolvency team. He regularly acts for insolvency practitioners in a wide range of personal and corporate insolvency matters, including advising on issues arising on their appointment, PPSA disputes, the undertaking of public examinations, and various insolvency actions including voidable transaction claims. Stephen also acts on behalf of affected directors, bankrupts and both secured and unsecured creditors when dealing with distressed entities and the administration of insolvent entities.
